New Year's Eve - what to wear

The new year's eve is coming and with it the indecision of what party to go, what to dress and so on. This year my decision was pretty easy, I'm sick so I'm staying at home ;) end of story.
For those who are staying at home like me or go to a friends/family house wearing a super fancy gown might not be an option but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't dress up. The last night of the year asks for a little sparkle, even it's on jewelry. So this year I made two outfits suggestions, one for a party and the other for a small get-together at home.

You may think everything is quite dull and plain but in reality every item has a special touch, the fitting, the materials,..., and are basics which means that are perfect to coordinate with trendy items that may l live in your wardrobe.

The sales season has officially started today so once again I did my research and here are my proposals and recommendations.

Don't forget the shopping mantra: Quality over Quantity!
This is the opportunity to buy quality basics. Go for simplicity and leave the trendy items on the racks or on a second plan.
Get focus, this is the time to invest on lifetime items.

Trend Alert: Sparkling

The metallics continue to make presence in this season. This trend come up in all different shades, from silver to pure gold and you can see it pretty much on every garment, from shoes to dresses and coats. These glowing shades are going to make us shimmer through the cold season.

 I'm madly in love with golden tones, especially champagne shadows,  I want everything in that colour (who would have thought of that??)! I'm kidding but I really think that the gold tone gives a warmer touch, but please don't forget, MODERATION! 

If you think a golden garment is too much for you start to bet on accessories and shoes ;)

Os metalizados continuam a marcar presença nesta nova estação. Esta tendência vem em diferentes tonalidades, desde o tom prata até ao dourado, e podemos encontra-las em todo o tipo de peças, desde calçado até aos vestidos e casacos. Estes tons luminosos vão nos fazer brilhar durante toda a estação fria.

 Eu estou loucamente apaixonada pelos tonalidades douradas, especialmente o tom champanhe, quero tudo nessa cor (quem diria?!). Estou a brincar mas eu acho que o dourado dá um toque mais quente, mas por favor não se esqueça, Moderação! 

Se acharem que uma peça de roupa dourada é demasiado, apostem nos acessórios e sapatos ;)

Trend Alert: Capes and Cloaks

The fabulous and old fashioned favourite, the cape coat, is back to warm our chilly days. This piece flooded the runways claiming back its iconic status.

For me, capes were never out of fashion, I consider them such an elegant and chic piece. Personally, I prefer more sober and classic capes that I can wear over the years but, of course, I have my eyes on more fancy ones.

They come up in different shapes, lengths and textures, with etnical motives or with a mysterious touch, therefore, are a great option to break the monotony of coats.

Tips:
Shorter capes work with skirts and shorts as well with jeans and trousers.
Longer capes work with a great pair of skinny jeans or leggings.
Have attention to volumes while conjugating this piece, but don't forget that the fun part of a cape is layering (even over a coat). The key word is layering!

O fabuloso e queridinho da moda, a capa, está de volta para nos aquecer nos dias mais frescotes. Esta peça inundou as passerelles reivindicando o seu estatuto de ícone.

Para mim as capas nunca estiveram foram de moda, acho que são peças super elegantes e chiques. Pessoalmente prefiro capas mais sóbrias e clássicas que posso usar ao longo dos anos, mas claro que já tenho algumas mais fora do comum de baixo de olho!

Elas chegam nos ao mercado com diferentes formas, comprimentos, texturas, com padrões étnicos ou com um ar mais misterioso, por isso, são uma ótima opção para quebrar a monotonia de um casaco.

Dicas:

Capas longas funcionam com saias e calções, e claro com calças e jeans.

Capas longas ficam melhor com um bonito par de skinny jeans ou leggings.

Tenham atenção aos volumes ao conjugar esta peça, mas não se esqueçam que a parte mais divertida de usar uma capa é sobrepô-la (mesmo sobre um casacão). Sobrepor é a palavra de ordem!

The Midi Skirt

This kind of skirt is not a novelty, and it has reclaimed its hit status on past seasons.
I always love the midi skirt, especially if it is a wider model, but I thought it was hard for a regular girl to add such an opulent item to her closet. Well, forget that stupid idea! I'm a proud owner of a wide midi skirt and I already wear last sunday for lunch and a walk with friends.

If it's a long skirt you have to be careful with proportions. Longer skirts for taller girls and skirts above the knee for shorter girls (don't forget your high heels!).

Here are some suggestions for How to wear a midi skirt. I've chosen this gorgeous Blanco black skirt to assemble four looks. The first is more suited for work, the second and third are both great casual options and finally the fourth is perfect for a night out with friends.

Trend Alert: Fur

Fur is not a novelty for the cold season. Last year was a major Must and women are not capable of letting these warm and cozy garments out of their wardrobes anymore, gladly the trend hit the streets on full strength.
In the past fur coats were associated to formal outfits, but today they are one of the most versatile coats a woman can have. A fur coat looks amazing on a gown or with a pair of skinny jeans.

 Tip: These garments tend to have a lot of volume so avoid bulky bottoms.
